After School:
New Arts Program

Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin now offers an after school program aimed at elementary school children at their Cultural Arts Center located at 921 W. New Braunfels Street, Seguin, TX. Teatro’s “Craft & Culture” after school program is FREE of charge and each week features a guest artist from our community who will share their art or craft and lead children in a related craft activity. Our first program will be held on Wednesday, March 3rd from 4-5PM, and will continue on Wednesdays in March & April. Supervision and volunteers will be available to assist artists. **Children under 5 must be supervised by a parents, guardian, or family member (maybe a kind older brother or sister?).

Teatro De Artes is working in partnership with the Seguin-Guadalupe County Public Library to promote activities aimed at youth and developing their artistic and educational talents. Therefore, our “Craft & Culture” program will be held at Teatro every Wednesday in March and April except Wednesday, March 17th or Wednesday, April 21st; instead, we will meet at the Public Library for “Crafty Kids” from 4-5pm, Tuesday, March 16th and Tuesday, April 20th.

Our first two artists will be Dr. Ana María Gonzalez, Associate Professor of Spanish at TLU and Department Chair of the Modern Language Department (March 3rd), and Ms. Lupe Betancourt, Teatro’s Costume Coordinator and TCA Artist in Residence (March 11th).

Why Take the ACT?

The SAT is popular and well-known, but have you heard of the ACT?

The ACT is another standardized test that most colleges and universitites accept. The difference is that the ACT is curriculum-based, while the SAT is aimed more at general reasoning and problem-solving skills. Overall, the questions on the ACT are easier to understand, because the ACT questions are more knowledge-based and straightforward, while the SAT questions are puzzlelike and  tricky. Another advantage for taking the ACT is that it is up to 40 minutes shorter.

There are no disadvantages to taking the ACT; anyone will tell you that to take the test is better than not taking the test. By taking both tests admissions officers get a better perspective on what kind of student you are.

For more information about the ACT, visit http://www.actstudent.org/faq/answers/what.html now!
